It
is advised that one use a standard same size box if possible,
so that they will stack easier and more efficiently. |
| |
|
One
should probably leave airspace between the items/boxes
and the walls of the unit to allow proper ventilation. |
| |
|
Store
the unneeded items toward the back of the unit, and more
important items that need to be accessed regularly in
the front of the unit. |
| |
|
Place
all furniture on top of wooden pallets or other boards
to prevent possible moisture damage. Ask about our climate
controlled units! |
| |
|
Cover
everything with plastic sheeting (boxes included). This
will add protection from any moisture damage. Ask for
our “Climate Controlled” units for any clothes
or leather that my need a certain temperature!!!! |
| |
|
Pack
tightly – this prevents moisture, as well as lessens
the space that you will need to store everything. |
| |
|
Fragile
items should be packed in small
boxes with lots of bubble wrap (or other cushioning…linens
are great for this purpose). These smaller boxes can then
be placed snuggly in larger, more weighty boxes so as
to reduce shifting during the shipping/traveling process.
Mark all boxes with fragile items inside, “FRAGILE
– Handle with Care” |
| |
|
Anything
that is too delicate and/or too large
to travel with, without dismantling, should be wrapped
appropriately. Any hardware used in the dismantling process
should be placed in plastic bags. Next, either tape the
plastic bags to the other box directly, or place them
safely inside the box of the item from which they came.
Keep a written record of how the item was dismantled and
place these instructions in the plastic bag as well. |
| |
|
Heavy
items
should be placed in the storage boxes
first so they weigh down the bottom of the box and won’t
rest on top of lighter items that could be easily destroyed
by the excessive weight. Don’t place large amounts
of heavy items in one large box – it will then be
impossible to move. Instead, pack heavy items such as
books and metal items in smaller, more manageable boxes,
and then buffer them with lighter items that will take
up space, but won’t weigh down the box further. |
| |
|
Books
should be stored in small boxes horizontally. This
is important so that the spines don’t get ruined
or loosened. Books are heavy! See “Heavy Items”
above |
| |
|

all gasoline and/or other chemicals drained completely

| |
|
Mattresses
should have a plastic bag to avoid dust and unwanted moisture. |
| |
|
Leather
Items should be treated with
leather products previous to being stored. Ask about our
special Cedar-lined and climate controlled storage rooms
for clothing, etc.!!!! |
| |
|
Appliances
should be cleaned out thoroughly! Nothing should be inside
any appliance when it is stored. One may leave the appliances’
doors ajar to allow any needed ventilation. |
| |
|
Dishes
and Glassware should be specially
packed in “Dishpacks” designed to safely store
these materials. |
| |
|
Photographs
are not advised to be stored if possible. But, if they
are to be stored they should be stored horizontally between
sheets of cardboard to avoid their natural “curling”.
Any irreplaceable pictures or negatives should also be
stored in waterproof containers or plastic bags as well. |
